Mio's seven-inch C728 navigator surfaces
Mio has quietly introduced a snazzy new navigator on its site, dubbed the C728. This unit boasts an expansive seven-inch 800 x 480 resolution touchscreen, 400MHz Samsung 2443 processor, SiRFstar III GPS chipset, AV input, internal speaker, SD / MMC expansion slots, a headphone jack, USB connectivity, 2GB of memory, 64MB of RAM and a rechargeable Li-ion good for nearly 2.5-hours on a full charge. Furthermore, you'll find Windows CE.net 5.0 runnin' the show, and there's even a multimedia player / image viewer built in. Sadly, mum's the word in regard to pricing and availability.

This sounds a lot like the Coolnavi 700, which you can buy now off of ebay for $400. My father-inlaw to be is waiting for his to get to his house on the 19th. Can't wait to play around with it and install some windows CE software.

What's the deal with new devices being announced for gps etc and on the side having the older MS CE 5.0 software rather than 6.0?

I think you're thinking of Windows Mobile 6, but it still uses Win CE 5 (5.2). Win CE 6 I don't think is used for Mobile devices.

I'm delighted to see that this device is on the way. I really think it will prove to be a format. And I don't know why we've had to wait so long.
Unlike UMPC's with desktop Windows, these are actually a practical and usable device for mobile computing - especially in the car. The software base may be lacking - but that could easily change if the device sells.
I'll certainly be buying at least one. As I don't see anything else successfully filling the gap between smartphone-PDAs and laptops. I want it mainly for mapping and information databases. And for me a 7" instant-on pad is just what I need. There's enough software for my needs already - but I appreciate that there does need to be an improvement. The return of pocket office would be a big help imo.
