Sony continues to expand GPS line with NV-U51

Presumably rounding out the low end of Sony's newly prolific GPS lineup, the new NV-U51 does away with the traffic knowledge of its siblings, and instead takes the barebones approach to GPS. The 3.5-inch touchscreen unit includes the same "Gesture Command" interface functionality of the other units, along with a one month free subscription to speed camera locations. Otherwise, frills are nonexistent: there's 512MB of memory, enough to store a single region of mapping data, and a six hour battery. At least the unit manages to be a bit slimmer than most. Hopefully Sony also managed to slim the price down from that $500 they're asking for the NV-U71T -- we suppose we'll find out when this thing hits stores this December.

The interface is attractive, but not attractive enough to make me buy a Sony product.

I've pretty much done with anything Sony. Never fall for another paperweight. Laptops, cameras, camcorders, CD Players, TVs, and so much more. All top of line products. All died right after warranty expired. I Hate Sony. Thank goodness my current laptop (Lenovo T60p) uses a Sanyo battery.

That thing is huge!
But, why stop there? Just turn the entire windscreen into an 46" LCD GPS screen. You don't need to see where you are going anyway.

That is quite the window mount.

I actually tried this unit. I asked it to locate Sony's plan to run a successful company. It gave up trying, and we ended up at Denny's.

Holy crap if that is a dime over $350 they are retards. Unless there interface is more intuitive than the Tom Tom ONE ($499). It better have something else to offer that trumps the ONE's bluetooth, 2GB map space and traffic reporting that is....
Perhaps an automated hand-job function? I dunno, I'm just throwing it out there....might be useful....

This gigantic windshield dock is the best way to have your car broken into if you leave it there. I had (stupidly) left my TomTom dock stuck on the windshield and my car's windows were broken twice. None since I removed it. Do what you want, this is my experience...
