TeleNav GPS comes to Sprint
Sprint has a new option for its
GPS-enabled phones and, no, it's not another
GPS-based employee tracker. Sprint will now offer the
TeleNav GPS software, which has
long been available to Nextel customers, on its Sanyo 5600, Sanyo 7400 and LG
535 handsets. The service, which will run $9.99 per month, includes voice prompts and onscreen directions. The offering
is the second GPS service announced for Sprint in less than a month. Earlier this month,
Garmin began offering a phone-based version of its
StreetPilot software to Sprint customers, also for $9.99 per month.

it's about time. I was hoping this would happen when Sprint hooked up with Nextel. I was going to leave Sprint, but I may just stick around and see what else they add to their services.

I've been using the service on my Motorola i730 for about 1.5 yrs now and have been quite happy with it. Although, I'm not happy with the changes to the subscription they've made. It's starting to get a little expensive. TeleNav has made some huge strides since they first released the software 3yrs ago.

Another (And one of the better ones) exaple of combining two devices into one. This is definitely something I would go for. How long before we have EVERYTHING in one small pocket device? I hope I'm around to see the day.

1)Does it have a mode where you can just see your coordinates, so you can use it for things like geocaching?
2)Does it have a mode where you can see a map, or does it just have arrows and voice prompts? I know the maps would be too small for reading while driving, but would be great for pedestrian navigation
3)Why the hell is this only being released on so few phones? Why not on all vision-enabled phones with a GPS chip in them? Is there some major tehcnical hurdle that prevents them from implementing this on other sanyo phones using the Sprinxtel network?

If you want the real-time moving maps, check out Garmin Mobile as mentioned in the article.

I'd never have that in my car, what a stupid lookin thing. What it should be able to do is wirelessly connect to the car, the image then appear on the windscreen set to any size and be voice activated.
I have seen an article on engadget that showed sometime in this decade that glass will be able to show images because of some chemical mix, anyway its better than having a phone pipped onto the windscreen

I have been waiting for sprint to get in the GPS game. Screw their cammera phones, GPS navigation is something I want, can use and will pay for. So they finally roll it out and its for only three phones, none of which I have. Spint wake up we want GPS navigation not tv that is so slow it is useless. Enough with the picture phones - they are a fad. Spend the money on this and get it on all your phones.
